Think Tanks
I’m pleased to recommend the following organizations who dedicate their resources to policy research, analysis and education. These resources represent the best and brighten minds within the conservative movement. Clearly, conservative thinkers will find rich reading at these sites.
Cato Institute
Seeks to increase the understanding of public policies based on the principles of limited government, free markets, individual liberty, and peace. The Institute uses the most effective means to originate, advocate, promote, and disseminate applicable policy proposals that create free, open, and civil societies in the United States and throughout the world.
Clare Booth Luce Institute
An organization that seeks to mentor and train young women for effective leadership on their campuses, at their workplaces, and in their communities and homes. Their programs, resources, and role models provide a strong voice for modern American women who want fair treatment and equal opportunities, but who are offended by the radical, liberal agenda they encounter in our nation’s high schools, colleges, and popular culture. Their goal is to engage, inform, and connect conservatives across the country, with a special focus on young women who will lead and shape the future of our nation. They accomplish this through: leadership and mentoring activities, campus activism programs, internships, networking opportunities, and other resources.
Federalist Society
A group of conservatives and libertarians interested in the current state of the legal order. It is founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be. The Society seeks both to promote an awareness of these principles and to further their application through its activities.
Heritage Foundation
The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institute - a think tank - whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense. Not content with producing research, Heritage generates solutions consistent with their beliefs and markets them to the Congress, the Executive Branch, the news media and others. These solutions build on the country’s economic, political and social heritage to produce a safer, stronger, freer, more prosperous America, and a safer, more prosperous, freer world. As conserv- atives, they believe the values and ideas that motivated our Founding Fathers are worth conserving. And as policy entrepreneurs, they believe the most effective solutions are consistent with those ideas and values.
Lexington Institute
Informs, educates, and shapes the public debate of national priorities in those areas that are of surpassing importance to the future success of democracy, such as national security, education reform, tax reform, immigration and federal policy concerning science and technology. The Lexington Institute believes in limiting the role of the federal government to those functions explicitly stated or implicitly defined by the Constitution. The Institute therefore actively opposes the unnecessary intrusion of the federal government into the commerce and culture of the nation, and strives to find nongovernmental, market-based solutions to public-policy challenges. They believe a dynamic private sector is the greatest engine for social progress and economic prosperity.
Media Research Center
As a media watchdog, MRC operates the largest, most comprehensive media monitoring operation in the world, serving as a check and balance on the dominant media. Through its divisions, programs, and a marketing effort that never rests, the Media Research Center has become an institutionalized machine on the issue of balance in the press.
National Review
America’s most widely read and influential magazine and web site for Republican/ conservative news, commentary, and opinion. Both magazine and web site are the benchmark vehicles for reaching those Republicans/conservatives who shape opinion on the important issues, and both reach an affluent, educated, and highly responsive audience of corporate and government leaders, the financial elite, educators, journalists, community and association leaders, as well as engaged activists all across America. It is considered the center of intellectual activity for the American Conservative movement.
